Introducing: Kim Adu

To launch our very first Tech of the Month spotlight, we wanted to feature someone who represents exactly what the future of the nail industry looks like — bold, creative, and full of promise.

Enter: Kim Adu, a 15-year-old self-taught nail tech from Manchester who’s only a year into her journey and so incredibly young, but already creating clean, stylish, and expressive sets that stand out.

Kim’s work is fun, fresh, and full of personality with a clear love for playful shapes, bright colours, and anything but French tips (her words!). She’s part of a new wave of young talent redefining what it means to be a beginner — and we’re so excited to celebrate her throughout July.

What’s your name and how old are you?

Kim Adu, and I’m 15!

Where are you based?

Manchester.

How long have you been doing nails?

Just over a year now.

What inspired you to become a nail tech?

Honestly, just a love for creativity. I’ve always been drawn to artistic things, and nails became the perfect outlet.

Did you train formally, or are you self-taught?

I’m completely self-taught!

How would you describe your nail style in three words?

Fun, clean, and cute.

What’s your all-time favourite nail design to create?

Anything other than French tips 🤣

Is there a nail trend you’re obsessed with right now?

Definitely fun shapes — stiletto and duck nails are my current favourites.

What's something you’re working on improving right now?

My timing, and getting more confident with complex, crazy designs.

Do you have a favourite product or shade from Diamond Nail Supplies?

Yes! Birthday Suit or Extra — I love them both.

What’s one thing you wish more people knew about being a nail tech?

That it’s so much more than just doing nails. It’s about building relationships with your clients — that connection is everything.

What’s your dream for your nail career in the next year or two?

To upgrade and have my own space — and definitely grow more online!

Any advice for other beginner nail techs?

Keep an open mind and never stop practising. Progress takes time, but it’s worth it.
